Clubs, teams and informal groups can make a place feel smaller and more welcoming. You do not have to sign up for every opportunity to find one that fits.

Start with one activity you are curious about and attend a meeting without promising a full term. Notice how people treat newcomers, how often they meet and whether the commitment works with your schedule.

Friendships often grow from repeated small conversations. Say hello after class, follow up on a shared interest and invite someone to study or get a meal. Consistency usually matters more than a perfect introduction.

It is also fine to leave a group that does not suit you. Your time is limited, and a good community should make that time feel well spent.
